I was in the darkness;
I could not see my words
Nor the wishes of my heart.
Then suddenly there was a great light --
"Let me into the darkness again."

Almost spiritually simple.
It evokes in my mind memories of lighting candles in church after saturday benediction, incense in the air, and the accretion of melted wax around the candle-holders, that I imagined had been gathering there for decades, the remnants of a thousand prayers whispered for a thousand souls, a perfect and melancholy metaphor for purgatory.
